The Canal Run Home

Apologies for the belated post to Runography. Here’s a quick update on my run home from work along the Forth & Clyde Canal to tropical Clydebank:

This was my weekly long run as part of training for the Edinburgh Marathon.

The run was approx 21.5 miles and took just under 3 hours so was perfect Marathon training.

The route is ideal because the Canal passes within a few minutes walk from my house and is obviously flat and a great surface to run on.

Main towns along the path: Kilsyth – Twechar – Kirkintilloch – Bishopriggs – Possil ( 8-o ) – Maryhill – Anniesland – Knightswood – Drumchapel – Whitecrook – Clydebank

Thankfully managed to avoid being attacked by Neds (don’t think they like the rain) and abuse was limited to the verbal kind (since this is a family site I won’t repeat :-)

As far as the actual run, I went off too quickly and am learning some harsh lessons about pace which I will need to apply to the actual Marathon. To translate: I wiz gubbed

The hardest part was passing Lock 27 with the smell of fresh food and the clink of chilled beer. Torture!

What we need is a way to upload the map and stats from our Garmin gizmos straight to Runography. Something for Eoan to ponder on…

  • Your run must be coming to an end soon. :) Hopefully you made it along the canal in one piece.

  • Finally :) Great that you managed to complete the run, great training for your impending marathon. 21.5 miles is a long way off for me, but I’ll get there ( perhaps ). :) This year, 1/2 marathon maximum I think. Don’t want to overdo it.

Pace, the Garmin should help for that. As for uploading the data to the site, yes, I need to workon something to allow that to be automated. Perhaps a Wordpress Plugin?

  • I’ve setup a new Category just for this type of post. Runographers. And you will be pleased to know you are the first of your kind.
