My first race – the Tom Scott Road Race 4 mile version
I decided while having a look around the web tonight that I may as well have a go at a race, I was having a look on the Jog Scotland website and I noticed the Tom Scott Road Race website and the fact they have a race this Sunday in Strathclyde Country Park. As I have run around this park a couple of times during training, it’s ideal as a starting place. So I’ll get in touch with them tomorrow and register my entry. Tomorrow is the last day for entries, which is a bit of luck.
It looks like there are only around 50-60 runners for the 4 mile route, if I can finish in the top 90% I’ll be happy.
Hopefully I’m not last….
You can see the course here: Tom Scott 4 mile race round the loch
My best time round the loch was 33:03 mins on 2nd March 2008, but the distance (according to my GPS) was 3.68 miles. What target should I set myself? As this race is 4 miles, what about running it at 8:30-minute mile pace – that would give me a time of 34 mins. I’ll just have to see how I go.
What have I let myself in for? I have a 6 mile training run on Friday… argh!

You’re mad! Good luck.
p.s. the Tom Scott website says the “4 mile” course was measured at 3.75 miles last year. I think you should be aiming to beat your 33 min mark.
3.75 miles, that’s good news.
They seem to run around the back of the boating yard, which I don’t normally do, and they finish by running back into the boating yard, which maybe explains the extra distance.
I called the organiser today and they said I can register on the day, so that’s my plan.
good luck – I expect you to win it and give us a photo of your big gold medal
