MHFS Training – Recovery – Week 2 day 1
Yesterday was day 7 of the new program, and after a dinner party at the house the night before, I spent the day recovering. It’s not a good idea doing so much exercise then having a blow out at the end of the week, it comes back to haunt you. It was a designated rest day anyway, just as well really as I really couldn’t have run anywhere. I hit the sack at 9.50pm to try and recover and give myself a fighting chance of being able to run today.
I thought I might have a chance but it was not to be, my gut wasn’t up for it, I think it’s best if your body is telling you no, to take that advice and wait until it’s ready. I feel fine now, 9.45pm, but I’ll leave it until tomorrow when I am fresh and ready. I have a training course this week at work, so no time for the gym at lunchtime, instead I’ll have to go out after work which means getting home a bit later.
I’ll have to switch the time I have my banana, so instead of 11am, I’ll have it at around 4.00pm, hopefully I can do the speedwork sessions around Broadwood Loch, near my work. I’m getting nervous about this which isn’t helping. What if I can’t complete the 5 miles after knackering myself out with these 800m sprints.
I think another early night to make sure I’m ready for tomorrow is a good idea. It feels weird as I’ve never been one to take early nights, but I feel I need to rest. It can only be good for me, right!
Moving todays work to tomorrow won’t affect my overall schedule as a few of the guys at work are runners and asked if I wanted to go with them on Friday to a training session at Chatelherault Country Park followed by dinner in a restaurant in Hamilton. Because of that I’ll do my long run on Friday instead of Thursday, and earn my meal. This means there is no problem with me moving todays session to tomorrow.
I can rest Saturday and do the 2 mile easy run on the sunday.
We shall find out tomorrow how I fair with the speedwork session.
