MHFS Training – Long run – Week 5 day 4 – Hard Slog
Short(er) post as I am in recovery mode and I’m exhausted.
Roddy and I did a run that took us from Broadwood Stadium, down towards Croy, along the railway line almost to Dullatar, down towards the bottom of Kilsyth and back round, along the Canal then back up the hill, along the railway line and back to Broadwood. Got that?
The terrain varied, with us covering miles of roads, hard trails, mud trails all with a variety of hills thrown in. It was the hardest run I’ve done to date and resulted in the first blister I’ve received in my running career. On the arch of my left foot, just where it would rub against the inside of my shoe. I reckon I need to change my choice of socks, I have been wearing cotton socks that have been ok to date, but I think that on this type of terrain they are no use. Any foot movement inside the shoe was rubbing against the mud/water on the sock leading to the blister. Anyway I promised a short post, so I better wrap this up.
- 8.81 miles covered at average pace of 9:22 min/mi ( PB distance wise )
- 6.2 miles (10k) of that covered in time of 56.38 ( great considering the terrain and PB over 10k, although I would have been faster than this on monday if I’d done the extra 0.2 miles )
Happy with my progress so far. Next week is to be an easier week, just as well I got the blister when I did.
Might have a chance to repair itself next week. I’m off to recover.
Forgot to mention, after the run I weighed myself in Gym and was 12st 13lb, the first time I’ve seen the scales dip below the 13st mark. I know I’ll have lost a bit of fluid during the run, but it’s still another milestone.
