MHFS Training – Easy Run – Week 6 – Day 6 – Road Closed

Another day another run. Yesterday was a busy day and in amongst all my other duties I managed to fit in my run. It was meant to be a 4 mile easy run to end the easy week that has marked the middle of my training program. After this week it’s back to tempos/long runs and speedwork sessions in the run up to the MHFS 10k in June.

Before this I had taken my youngest to his football training, then Dylan and I went out for his 3rd run, we stuck to the same speed and at the end of the lap he was happy to do a slight increase in distance so we completed 0.79 miles, previous best was 0.55 miles. :) Progress.

Back to my run then, I left the house after dropping Dylan off and headed towards Hallside, I was feeling good and it was a nice sunny morning, thankfully not as hot as Thursday had been, probably about 20C. My intention was to run 2 miles to Hallside and then turn around and run back but I decided since I was feeling good I may as well do an extra bit so decided to head down through Hallside and up towards Newton Station. From there I can get back to Blantyre on the country roads.

I remembered that the road from Blantyre to Newton was closed to traffic, and barring something really big, it was going to be ok for me to run through it. That was the best decision I’d made so far. It was silent on that stretch of road and I was able to run the entire section in the middle of the road. :) It felt brilliant having the whole place to myself, all I could hear was the farm noise. I must have been running along with a giant smile on my face. :) Got to the end of the closed off section and finally saw a car, I think I’d had 10 minutes of solitude. It was great.

I ended up covering nearly 6 miles instead of the intended 4, but that’s ok.

Splits

  • Mile 1 @ 8:55 min/mi
  • Mile 2 @ 9:03 min/mi
  • Mile 3 @ 8:56 min/mi
  • Mile 4 @ 9:08 min/mi- The quiet mile :)
  • Mile 5 @ 9:16 min/mi
  • Last 0.92 miles @ 8:40 min/mi
  • Total Distance: 5.92 miles @ 9:00 min/mi – 53:16

Following this I went home, put up a trampoline then knocked down a couple of walls in the back garden and took the rubble to the dump. Yesterday was really busy.

Today – easy day and that’s my intention. Sitting around watching football and maybe having a walk around the garden. :)
