MHFS Training – Easy Run – Week 6 – Day 4 – Hot Day

An easy run today, or so it was meant to be. The temperature must be the hottest it’s been so far this year and I am out doing my run midday. I had drank almost 2 litres of water before the run so I was hydrated enough, although I’d only had an apple this am, instead of my usual apple and banana.

I was meant to be doing:

Easy Run
Dist: 5mi
@9:47

Instead what I did was more akin to a tempo run. I did one mile warmup, then Roddy went off to do some Fartlek and I was going to maintain my pace, which at that point was 8:37 min/mi. I decided to up it slightly, well quite a bit actually and was on for 8:00 min/mi. I decided I’d do this pace for three miles then do a cool down. As I approached the end of the the 2nd mile at that pace I changed my mind and decided I’d be best dropping the pace and allowing myself a longer cool down. The outside temperature must have been 23C and we were running without shelter. There was a nice breeze, although that breeze turned into a bit of a headwind for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th miles. :( Nice in the sense it was cooling, but it must have been slowing me down a fair bit. There was a tough hill at the end of the 4th mile which I was delighted to make to the top as I was knackered by that point.

  • Total Distance: 4.34 miles in 36:36.39
  • Mile 1 @ 8:37 min/mi
  • Mile 2 @ 7:57 min/mi
  • Mile 3 @ 8:14 min/mi
  • Mile 4 @ 8:53 min/mi
  • Last 0.34 miles @ 7:55 min/mi

At the end of this run I was exhausted, but again, pleased I’d completed it.

maps.live.com is not bad for displaying this data, but could do with making it a bit easier to organise.

Weight Pre-run : 13st 0lb

Weight Post-run : 12st 12.5lb ( iirc, or it could have been 12st 13.5lb )

Still hovering around the 13st mark. My mileage is due to go up again shortly so will probably drop a few more pounds before the race.
