MHFS Training – Easy Run – Week 1 Day 6
Onwards and upwards as they say, day 5 of my training program.
Easy Run
Dist: 2mi
@9:14-minute mile
Last night I had a number of glasses of red wine, and unfortunately managed to smoke some cigarettes too, so this morning I wasn’t feeling that great. This and the fact that I didn’t get to bed until 1am and was up with my kids at 6.50am, you could say I wasn’t at my peak. In my wisdom I had 2 cups of coffee to wake me up, and no water. Then eventually I realised that I hadn’t eaten, so had an apple about 20mins before I setout to do my run. My stomach wasn’t feeling so good but I thought I could run it off.
I setup from the house at 10.50am, no point driving somewhere to do a short run, and I suppose it gives me a chance to explore the area, I live in Blantyre, Scotland. I set off at a good pace – around the 7:30-minute mile mark, but it wasn’t long before I realised that it was a bit too fast, considering my condition. I should be running this a lot slower. I completed the first mile in 8:18 which would be good if I could maintain that over a distance, but not yet I can’t. The 2nd mile was harder but I didn’t want to slow too much, inevitably my body decided that I had to slow and I completed the 2nd mile in 8:46, I’d say the first mile was mainly flat/slightly downhill but not much, whereas the 2nd mile was more or less the reverse. Quite a difference in times and goes to show that I shouldn’t set off too fast or I’ll find it hard to maintain. I completed a total of 2.22mi in 18:59 at an average pace of 8:33-minute miles. Not bad considering my preperation.
Still not looking forward to the speedwork session on Monday
