MHFS Training – Easy Fives – Week 5 day 2
Yesterday was to be an easy run of 2 miles @ 9:59 min/mi, but the guys at work asked me to play 5-a-sides to make the numbers up to 10 and because they can’t pick teams without me, so instead, I played 5-a-sides. I have been trying to avoid the football games of late, mostly to avoid injury, but they pleaded and I relented.
I had promised myself I would go out at night, but that never quiet happened either.
As an experiment I decided to wear the Garmin to figure out just what distance I cover in one of these games. It was bleak! In the hour playing I covered 2.06miles, which although gave me the distance for the easy run was rather a poor effort. A couple of weeks ago I had played in a game where there were only 4-a-side and I reckon I covered easily 3 miles in that game for the same time. Yes I could have done a bit more, but I am conscious of how easy it is for an injury to affect my training program. Gotta stick to the program.
I had spoken to my mate Mark yesterday as he’d been asking if I was doing situps in the am. I said yes, and I’d been doing them with legs lying flat as he suggested and reaching past my toes. Up until this morning I was only doing 30 although I reckoned I was capable of 50+. Mark said I had to do them until I couldn’t do anymore (he’s an ex-boxer). I went a bit further this morning and did 60, but I don’t want to do them to the point I am doubling over, I will build them up. IMHO situps should be done the same way as weights, in repetitions, rather than just blasting out the lot in one sitting. In view of that I should probably have done 3 reps of 20, but I’ll work on that later, for now, 60 will do.
My weight at the moment seems to be at a crossroads, I’m stuck around the 13st 3lb mark on the gym scales. I’ve seen it going down to 13st 0.5lb, then back up to 13st 4lb in the space of a few days. At home the scales are now showing between 12st 6lb and 12st 8lb back and forward. I’m not that fussed though, my body shape has changed a lot and tbh, I don’t think I’ll need to lose much more bulk, maybe another 1/2 a stone or so. Muscle size is increasing so that’ll be adding weight where I’m losing fat. My legs are much stronger now, my torso is playing catchup but isn’t that far behind. I want to maintain a reasonable size, don’t want to end up being too skinny. It might help my times, but I just don’t think I want to be that small.
Even though I’ve lost around 1st, I will probably have to go and buy a load of new clothes, I have been putting that off until I reached a size I thought I would stick at. I’ll give it another couple of months and get the end of summer sale gear.
So far I’ve put an extra notch in my belt, then moved to another belt, then moving that down another 2 notches too. Eek! That sounds like a lot, but it was mostly the beer belly.
Jeans are rather loose on me, and my shirts are starting to fit again.
