Great Scottish Run Race Report
I ran the GSR 1/2 marathon in 1:47:33, not as fast as the target I’d set myself of 1:45:40, but pretty close. I held back a little when I could probably have gone a bit faster, more through a fear of coming up short near the end. A bit more experience and I would have known that I could manage the end without the worry. I also seemed to not want to have a fast finish, I was quiet happy to go slightly faster, but wasn’t for pushing it.
My splits were pretty good,
Mile 1: 8:25
Mile 2: 7:49
Mile 3: 8:04
Mile 4: 8:11
Mile 5: 8:23
Mile 6: 8:07
Mile 7: 8:11
Mile 8: 8:04
Mile 9: 7:55
Mile 10: 8:15
Mile 11: 8:14
Mile 12: 8:02
Mile 13: 8:13
Mile 13.1: @ 7:27 min/mi pace
My start was a bit slow with the congestion, so that lost me a bit of time. All in all a good days running though.
Highlight was warming up pre-race with all the pro-runners, running up and down from George Square past John Street and back again. There were only a few pro-runners and me doing this
I always do a 10 min easy run warmup before the race. Reading too many magazines I think.
