Fives and Running are not Compatible
Where have I been, a little bit lazy on the updates front this week unfortunately.
I did manage to get the wee man out for his run on Thursday night before we went off for a meal. This time his we did 3 laps. Then on Saturday we went out again, and did 2 laps, this time he was struggling on the 2nd lap and 1/2 way round I said, if you go faster to the end of this lap we’ll make it a 2 lap run instead of 3. With that he was off like a rocket. Later he told me he had just been saving himself for lap 3… Chancer
After this I did a 3.44 mile recovery run, although probably a bit fast 9:09 min/mi pace.
I missed mondays session as I had the kids, as Ann went back to work. That was meant to be:
- Tempo Run
- Dist: 7 mi; 5mi@8:14; Cool
I was then going to do on Tuesday but got coaxed into playing 5-a-sides at lunchtime. The game was ok but I managed to pick up a couple of niggly injuries which affected my run on Tuesday night.
I went to Strathclyde Park on Tuesday night with the intention of running around it twice and doing my 5 mile tempo during that run. I started off rather quickly and noticed the muscle next to my right shin was feeling very tight (I’d blocked a shot with it earlier in the day). I decided it’d be safer to do 1 lap, but I still wanted to keep the tempo up so ran at near race pace. I completed one lap in 30:03, which was 2 secs slower than my time for the Tom Scott Road Race, but 3 mins faster than my last training run around here. I was knackered though. I was overtaken by a few runners, there were loads out there that night. One runner was slightly faster than me, I was going to use her as a pace setter and try and stick with her, but I thought she might get a bit worried about that, so held back a bit.
I went out for another run this morning to avoid going at lunchtime – my first morning run. I did 3.44 miles again, as an easy run and I have moved my 10 mile run (scheduled for today) to Saturday, to give my legs a rest and allow them to recover from the tightness they are currently feeling.
Just over a week to go before the MHFS 10k… can’t afford to allow this injury to fester. Gotta get a 50m 10k!!
My Mum has been out for a couple of runs this week since starting her program on Monday. Amazing!!! Although not long runs, (1 min run/2 min walk x 3) on Monday then (1 min run/2 min walk x 4) on Tuesday, you have to start somewhere. After the running sections she completes 30 mins by walking the remainder of the time. Within a couple of months she’ll be running non-stop for 30 mins. No-one really believes me at the moment, but if she gets the bug it’ll be easy for her! I have faith!
Something wrong with the Garmin Training Center software at the moment, the runs I uploaded yesterday are missing from it so I can’t add exact data to this post. That’s a bummer!
