Another longest run post
Yesterday I had a gym session and a quick warmup on the treadmill turned into a 2 mile run.
- First 1/2 mile at warmup pace then upped it
- 1/2 mile @ 7:32 min/mi
- 1/2 mile @ 6:58 min/mi
- 1/2 mile cool
That must be my fastest mile and should average at 7:15 min/mi pace. Glad I did it, felt good. No doubt I could go faster, I reckon I could have sustained the mile at 6:58 min/mi. After that it was back to weights.
Weight at Gym 12st 12lb – hovering around this for a while
So, back to the program after the Hairy Haggis escapades and I’m scheduled to do:
- Long Run
Dist: 9mi @ 9:35
This run followed a familiar course which includes hills, the forth and clyde canal, more hills and some swans. I managed to see a pair of swans and their eggs on this run. No camera though, so no pics.
I won’t write out a mile by mile account as it was tiring enough running it. I did feel myself getting bored after about mile 6, but then persuaded myself that this was just me trying to give up and that I’d done a similar distance before, so can do it again. I reckon I was just worrying about the monster hill at mile 8.
This was the first time I’d felt like I was developing runners fatigue, although I think I was running fine, I felt like I was running oddly. I made an extra effort to make sure my posture was ok as I don’t want to be running along like Quasimodo.
Times:
- Mile 1 @ 9:16 min/mi
- Mile 2 @ 8:45 min/mi
- Mile 3 @ 9:08 min/mi
- Mile 4 @ 9:10 min/mi
- Mile 5 @ 9:03 min/mi
- Mile 6 @ 9:09 min/mi
- Mile 7 @ 9:06 min/mi
- Mile 8 @ 9:13 min/mi
- Mile 9 @ 8:54 min/mi
- Last 0.86 miles @ 8:39 min/mi
- Overall – 9.87 miles @ average 9:02 min/mi
Chuffed with this, well within target and I was well below tempo pace for the duration. Pleased with the last few miles where I upped the pace a bit. Mile 8 where the hill from Kilsyth is, I upped the pace before getting to the hill, so I didn’t lose too much time on that Mile when I hit the hill.
Weight Post Run: 12st 9lb – a lot of fluid loss – luckily had some Lucozade Sport in my bag for post-run!
I should be taking the youngster running tonight, but I’m completely knackered and we are going out for a meal tonight, so maybe not got enough time.
Hopefully I’ll fit it in. We were out again on Tuesday night for another 3 laps of the park, this time he did it in 18:44.44, 22 seconds off his time last week and with a new record set on lap 3 of 6:03.93 for his fastest lap. He also got a fast lap in for lap 1 6:05. Average pace: 11:23 min/mi Great stuff!
My Mum has been out a couple of times this week getting some 30 min walks in place, ready for starting her run/walk program on Monday. At this rate I’ll end up starting a running club! Oops!
