A couple of people I haven’t mentioned yet
No training updates since last Tuesday, so what have I been up to? I’ll try and be brief, but there is a lot to mention:
Thursday:
- Easy Run of 5.85 miles @ 9:18 min/mi – pre-marathon relay run – I was supposed to be doing a 9 mile long run, but figured I shouldn’t run that far a couple of days before the marathon relay. Was very comfortable with this run. This was also the first run I have ever fallen during. I reached a roundabout near the end of the run and was concentrating on the traffic scooting past and didn’t notice the stone my left foot was about to catch. I went down very fast and luckily my arms reacted and saved my face.
I bounced back up really quickly and finished the run very thankful.
Friday
- Dylans run – 3 laps of park this time, 1.66 miles at average pace of 11:31 min/mi – superb after only a few weeks training. I thought it was 3k – but it’s actually 2.67km, so slightly short of the 3km mark. He’ll be disappointed as I’d told him it was 3km… oops. Time: 19:06.99 non-stop running – good going. At the end of the final lap he’s still got enough left in the tank to speed up a little at the finish line – we always choose the same spot to start the increase in speed.
Sunday
- See Hairy Haggis Relay Post – 4.7 miles run at roughly 8:15 min/mi
Monday:
- 6.18 miles with Ann (my partner) @ 10:12 min/mi – total time 1:03:06 – Road running with lots of long hills and a strong headwind made this a difficult run for Ann. She is used to treadmill running and has only managed to train outside a few times this year. She did compete in and complete the Resolution Asset Management Womens 10k last weekend in PB time of 59:39 – braw eh!!! Her target had been to beat 60 mins. Now in training for a 10k in september and a target of sub-57 mins. This was also the first time I’ve been out running with Ann, what with 3 kids to look after we can rarely get out together. My Mum was over so we took the opportunity of going out for a run together.
- Speaking of my Mum, she showed an interest last night so I started speaking to her about running and agreed to find a training program for her. I found one on www.runnersworld.com that’ll help her go from walking to running 2 miles in 8 weeks. She will do a bit of walking this week and start the program on Monday. – It’s all go. If my Mum does this I’ll be more impressed than anyone. No exercise for 20+ years!!
Today
- Nothing at the gym today, working too hard.
- Tonight going out with Dylan to consolidate on the distance of 3 laps and hopefully bring the time below the 19 minute mark.
That’s all for now…
